  • Notes
    • He emigrated to New England on the Elizabeth & Dorcas in 1634, an ill-starred crossing during which sixty passengers died.

He returned to England in 1646 with his Dummer in-laws. The in-laws never returned to New England; he returned to New England briefly in 1650 or so, then permanently in 1659. He brought his wife and children over in 1661.

Sometime while in England in the 1650s, he became a minister at North Baddesley, Hampshire. He appears to have been on friendly terms with Richard Cromwell, who briefly became Lord Protector between his father's death and the Restoration.

      Henry Sewall (1615-1700) = Jane Dummer (1627-1701)
      Samuel Sewall (1652-1730) = Hannah Hull (1658-1717)
      Joseph Sewell (1688-1769) = Elizabeth Walley (d. 1756)
      Samuel Sewell (1715-1771) = Elizabeth Quincy (1729-1770)
      Dorothy Sewell (1758-1825) = Joseph May (1760-1841)
      Abigail May (1800-1877) = Bronson Alcott (1799-1888)
      Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888)

Making Louisa May Alcott a fifth cousin, six times removed, to LDN.
