Notes - An accomplished politician, he served in at least fifteen parliaments between 1401 and 1431, and was Speaker of the House of Commons five times, a record not equalled until the 1700s. He was also chief butler of England from 1402 until his death, with only two short breaks, and was thus able to direct a great deal of patronage.
