  He was a prosperous citizen and draper of London. His monumental inscription, on a brass plate in the floor of the minster at Beverley, reads: All yow that Reade this wrytynge aparant Geve thanks to god for Rychard Ferrant whiche in his lyfe wright faythefullye And dyed allso Ryght Chrystyanly He had xii Chylderne withe Joane his wyfe which ar vii Sonnes and Dawghters fyve Of london he was as wyll appeere A fre Cetyzen and a Drapeere Of Robert ferrant he was the sone which at Skypton in Cravenee did wonne Hys bodye ys buiryed under this Stone Hys sowle to Rest with God ys gone The yere of Chryste nether lesse nor more A thowsand fyve hundredthe and thre score And allso un the monethe of Maye He dyed the fyve and twentyethe daye.
