  The 10 Oct 1904 record of her and William S. J. Derr's license to marry includes a handwritten, signed note from her father identifying himself as Lewis C. Smith an saying "I hereby give consent to the marriage of my minor daughter Edith M. Smith who was seventeen years of age Jan 5th 1904." More public records should be so gratuitously rich in genealogically-relevant information.
