• Notes

  Mary Lovering Holman (citation details below) demonstrated that she was not, earlier claims notwithstanding, a daughter of Nicholas Brown and Mary Linforth of Haverhill. Holman says that she was probably a daughter of the Nicholas Brown who witnessed several of Jonathan Merrill's deeds, but we know nothing further about that man.
