  • Notes
    • On 2 Jul 1864 he enlisted in the Confederate army, Capt. H. C. McLean's Company, Senior Reserves, at Carthage, Moore County, North Carolina. Age 48, born in Moore County, 6 feet 0 inches in height, complexion "fair", hair "light", eyes blue.

Some online sources appear to conflate him with Zacheus Britt, born Nov 1826 in Moore County, died there 20 Jul 1903, a son of Brittain Britt, but Zacheus was a separate individual with different wives and children.

According to the Moore County, NC Family Tree DNA project, Zachariah's father is unknown but DNA shows him to have been a descendant, almost certainly a grandson, of Joseph Britt, Sr. (bef 1755 - bef 1810 in Moore County) who migrated from Wake County to Moore County prior to 1800. "[T]he Britt families of Moore/Montgomery counties and the Britt families of Robeson County descend from the same Britt families that were originally from Virginia and moved down into North Carolina settling in the Edgecombe County area before migrating on to Johnston and Wake counties."
