    • He was a tailor. His parentage is unknown.

      He and his wife were repeatedly fined and, on some lengthy occasions and under conditions of brutal cold, imprisoned for nonattendance at Congregational services and for holding Quaker meetings. John Smith died in Virginia, possibly having gone there as a Quaker missionary.
