  Stepfather of Theodore Sturgeon, whom he adopted on 6 Dec 1928 after marrying his mother, Christine Hamilton Dicker, as her second husband in 1927. In his posthumously published memoir Argyll, Theodore Sturgeon says that his stepfather died of cancer in the West Indies in 1953, not 1954.
