Notes - Emigrated in 1630 with a wife and one daughter, Lydia. First at Plymouth, then Eastham in 1645. He was a yeoman and an innkeeper, and served in many public offices, almost always referred to in the records as "Mr." In 1636 he was chosen to be one of those assigned to revise the basic laws of the Plymouth Colony, i.e., the Mayflower Compact. In 1644 he and Myles Standish conducted the inventory of the recently-deceased Elder William Brewster. These two of many services indicate that he was held in high public trust.
He had a wife named Ann in 1648, who died in 1659, and on 1 Jul 1659 he married a Lydia, who died between 18 May 1678 and 23 Dec 1681. It is not established that Ann was the mother of any of his children.
