Notes - William Richard Cutter identifies him as the John King who came to Massachusetts with John Humphrey, deputy-governor of Massachusetts. And the 1638-41 notebooks of Thomas Lechford do confirm the existence of a John King and his wife Mary who came over as servants to "John Humfrey esq." (page 307). Lechford's notebooks also contain a later discussion of a John King of Weymouth, "seaman" (page 397). Robert Charles Anderson points out (in The Great Migration Directory) that these two John Kings are not necessarily the same man. And The History of Peter Parker and Sarah Ruggles of Roxbury, Mass., and Their Ancestors and Descendants by John William Linzee (Boston, 1913) says on page 517 that the wife of the John King of Weymouth was a Dorothy who made her will on 14 Jun 1652.
It seems to us likely that the father of Philip King was a John King, but we're unaware of anything that absolutely proves this, or that connects him with either of the John Kings mentioned in Lechford's notebooks.
