• Notes

  Duke (also styled Marquess in some sources) of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Knight of the shire for East Retford, 1614. Member of the Guiana Company, 1619. Succeeded his mother as 9th Lord Ogle. He was a courtier and a patron of the arts, and the author of several little-remembered plays. He is also remembered as one of the royalist commanders at Marston Moor, where his side lost to Parliament.
