  • Notes
    • He emigrated from Vermont to Lower Canada (i.e., Quebec) in 1825. He and his family were baptized into the Mormon church in the summer of 1837, and shortly afterward they emigrated to Far West, Caldwell County, Missouri, where they stayed only a short time before being driven out by anti-Mormon mobs. This was the period during which Missouri governor Boggs issued the executive order directing that Mormons either be driven from the state or "exterminated", a true high point in the long history of American murderousness toward its fellow citizens. By 1841 they were in Nauvoo, Illinois, where they remained until the uprisings that killed Joseph Smith and ejected much of the Mormon population. Ultimately they crossed the plains with the Heber C. Kimball Company from 7 Jun 1848 until their arrival at Salt Lake on 24 Sep of that year.
