Notes - Merchant of the Staple of Calais. In 1545, when Boston granted Boston its charter as a city, Nicholas Robertson, Alderman of St. Mary's Guild, became the city's first mayor. According to The History and Antiquities of Boston by Pishey Thompson (1856), he took the oath of office on 1 Jun 1545 "in the presence of the recorder, the twelve aldermen, and the inhabitants of the borough."
