  • Notes
    • In noting that she cannot have been, as claimed in the 1564 vistation of Devon, a daughter of Sir Alexander Cruwys, Charles Fitch-Northen's 1988 "The Trowbridge Ancestry" (citation details below) says that it seems "likely, though not documented, that Maud was the daughter of William Cruwys of East Anstey, co. Devon, who held East Anstey in 1346, presented to East Anstey 27 May 1348, and apparently had no sons." But in the Trowbridge ancestry that Fitch-Northen compiled for the eighth edition of Ancestral Roots (2004), he prudently described her only as "a daughter and heiress of the cadet Prowse family of East Anstey, Devon."

Probably sensibly, Fitch-Northen doesn't bother to argue with Vivian's placement of her as "da. of John Cruwys of Cruwys."
