      Approximate birth date estimated from what the History of Parliament calls his first appearance as an adult in legal records, in 1403. "Among the Royal Servants" says 1397, but that can't be right if the History of Parliament is correct.

      1455 death date dubious. The History of Parliament footnotes thus: "HP ed. Wedgwood 1439-1509, Biogs. 927, states that Richard Welby the elder died in 1455, but cites no evidence for this."
