Her second husband, who she married in 1996, was former Republican Senate majority leader Howard Baker, senator from Tennessee 1967-1985, White House Chief of Staff 1987-88, US Ambassador to Japan 2001-2005, died 2014. She is still alive, a vociferous critic of Donald Trump. In the 2018 Kansas gubernatorial election, she endorsed the Democratic candidate, Laura Kelly, who went on to defeat vote-supressing supervillain Kris Kobach.
