  • Notes
    • First of the Landon family to settle in Litchfield, Conn., removing from Southold, Long Island in 1740. Freeman in 1741, grand juror 1746, selectman 1753. On 5 Nov 1745 he and twelve others organized the First Episcopal Society of Litchfield.

      His tombstone:

Sacred to the Memory | of Capt Daniel Landon of Litchfield who | Died July the 11th 1790 aged 73 Years | who Served as Clerk of the Episcopal | Church in Litchfield 40 Years |

His God he served with pious zeal
The sacred dome was his delight
Far distant from that holy hill
      Has took his everlasting flight.

So here I leave this earthly clay
      And fly beyond etherial blue
      Unchained into eternal clay
To sing ye praise of God anew.
