  • Notes
    • Quite a few online sources have Ruth Royce's death date as 19 Feb 1690 (or 1689). This probably derives from E. B. Huntington's 1884 Genealogical Memoir of the Lo-Lathrop Family in This Country (citation details below):

"[John Lothrop] died, as the Wallingford records show, Aug 25, 1688, Æt. 44. Ruth, his widow, in Feb. 19, 1689-90, drew lot no. 4, in the distribution of that date."

In other words, 19 Feb 1690 is merely the last date on which Ruth Royce shows up in the records, but the qualifier "after" has fallen off that date in some transmissions.

In fact, as Huntington does not note but Torrey's New England Marriages Prior to 1700 does, by 19 Feb 1690 Ruth Royce was not only the widow of John Lothrop; she was also the wife of Abraham Doolittle, who she had married on 12 Feb 1689. They were each other's second spouses. Doolittle subsequently married Elizabeth Thorp on 5 Jun 1695, so Ruth has to have died between 19 Feb 1690 and that date.
