  • Notes
    • Burgess for Cricklade, Worcestershire, 1529. Knight of the shire for Gloucestershire, Nov 1554.

From his article at the History of Parliament online: "It is not certain to which kinsman Rede owed his election to the Parliament of 1529, to his stepfather Thomas, de jure 5th Lord Berkeley, who was to mention both Rede and his wife in his will, or to Sir John Brydges, one of Berkeley’s associates whose service Rede may already have entered." The History of Parliament is in error. Thomas Berkeley, de jure Lord Berkeley, was not William Rede's stepfather, but rather stepfather to Katherine Rowdon, William Rede's wife. See Complete Peerage, volume 2, page 137.

From various sources including RA it also appears that HoP is incorrect in identifying this William Reade's mother as his father's first wife, Margaret Beauchamp.
