  "[C]elebrated in his own day as the first white man (and an Irishman) to climb Mount Washington. In Boston in 1636, Marblehead 1637, he was an Indian interpreter by 1638; early history unknown. By 1639 he was a squatter in Oyster River; in 1649 he was in possession of 500 acres lately bought of Christopher Helme by Valentine Hill.
