"[I]n 1272 gave an estate to the church for violating asylum, suppressed various rebellious nobles and sought to protect his farmers against their oppressions. […] He was described in the chronicle of Rastede Cloister as a friendly lord who liked wine, gladly had guests at his court, sang psalms daily, was devoted to priests, and especially favored Hude and Rastede cloisters.
