    "[I]n 1272 gave an estate to the church for violating asylum, suppressed various rebellious nobles and sought to protect his farmers against their oppressions. […] He was described in the chronicle of Rastede Cloister as a friendly lord who liked wine, gladly had guests at his court, sang psalms daily, was devoted to priests, and especially favored Hude and Rastede cloisters.     His first wife was Hedwig of Oldenburg-Wildeshausen, daughter of Heinrich IV, Count of Oldenburg in Wildeshausen, but The Ancestry of Charles II establishes that she was not the mother of Johann II.
