    Notes:

    Emigrated to New England in 1635 on the Defence. First at Dorchester; Scituate by 1642, Roxbury by 1647; Woburn in 1648. With his wife and his children Israel, Sarah, and Rebecca, plus another child whose name is lost, he returned to England between 1648 and 1656, and died there.

After his father's death there in 1656, he returned to Woburn, Massachusetts with his mother and his sisters Sarah and Rebecca; they were there by 19 Jun 1660.

    He was handicapped in some way (described in records as "lame"). About 1660, on his return to New England, he was placed under the guardianship of his brother George, to be "put forth to an apprentice to such a trade as he is most meet for."
