Note that Georgia has never had a Howard County -- but A History of the Valley of Virginia, quoted below, does agree that Robert Poage decamped to someplace in Georgia, at any rate.

A record in the archives of the state of Georgia, dated April 1786, says that "nine head of Horses" were "stolen from Robt. Poage, then living in Franklin County, on the Coone River" in that month.

The ancestry.com database "The Reconstructed 1790 Census of Georgia" shows a "Poague, Robt." and "Poague, Marg." living in Franklin County, Georgia in 1790.

Update to the above: ancestry.com user Kay Pogue Fairbanks has posted an image from "The Missionary, newspaper" showing an announcement, dated 22 Nov 1793, headlined "GEORGIA, L. S., Wilkes County," from "David Terrel, Esquire, Register of Probats for the county aforesaid", of probate proceedings for "Robert Pogue, late of this county, deceased", to commence "on or before the 22nd day of December next". No date, page number, or place of publication is given for the newspaper The Missionary, but the image looks authentic. So that would seem to answer the question of where Robert Poage died.

The co-maintainer of the WeRelate page about Robert Poage, "co1776", notes that "Abb's Valley was named after Absalom Looney, a neighbor and kinsmen of Capt. James Moore who was married to Martha Poage, sister to Robert. It was located on the waters of the Blue Stone branch of the New River in Tazewell county, Virginia."

In the Autumn of 1775, Capt. James Moore removed with his family from Rockbridge county to Abb's Valley, having cleared some land the preceding spring, and raised a crop of corn. A short time afterwards, his brother-in-law, Robert Poage, settled near to him in the same valley. The place was exceedingly secluded, and these two families were ten or twelve miles from any other settlement of whites. As this had been a favorite hunting ground of the Indians, they often visited it.

Indeed, there was scarcely a ear in which these families were not compelled to leave the valley and take shelter in a fort in the Bluestone settlement. In the spring of 1782, the Indians attacked the house of Robert Poage at night.

They burst the door open, but finding that there were several men in the house (there happened to be three besides Mr. Poage), they did not attempt to enter the house, but after watching it for some time, went off; and the next morning killed a young man by the name of Richards, who had been living for some time at Capt. Moore's. He had gone out early in the morning to put some deer skins to soak in a pond about a quarter of a mile from the house; and whilst engaged at the pond, he was shot and immediately scalped. At this time the families forted again in the Bluestone settlement; and soon afterwards Mr. Poage removed to Georgia.

Five miles southwest is Abb's Valley, discovered by Absalom Looney. James Moore and Robert Poage were the first settlers, about 1770. In July, 1786, Shawnee Indians raided the valley, killing or carrying into captivity the Moore family. Mary (Polly) Moore, Martha Evans and James Moore (captured earlier) finally returned. They are known as "The Captives of Abb's Valley."

Widely said to have been born in Elk Valley, Campbell County, Tennessee. She was almost certainly born in Campbell County, as both the 1850 and 1860 Federal censuses show that as her parents' residence.

Her tombstone dates, transcribed by Joan Van Syckle, are 3 Jan 1857 and 15 Feb 1934. Her stone gives her name as "Tishia" Freeman. Some descendants report that she was also called "Tisha."

According to a family group record prepared by Joan Van Syckle, "Teresa's date of birth according to [the] 1900 census is Aug 1863." The same FGR gives Teresa's parents as "Joseph Allen (? 1/1/1838 - 5/24/1910)" and "Patricia Barnes". But Teresa Allen's sister Rachel's death certificate on ancestry.com shows her parents as John Allen and Nancy Barnes, both born in Tennessee.

Teresa was variously known as, Tasia, Tacia, and Tacey on census records. My father, Teresa's grandson, told me in the late 1970s that he remembered his grandmother being called "Tasia" or "Stasia" and wondered if this was a nickname for "Anastasia" which is my oldest daughter's name. From her death records and her tombstone it appears her given name was Teresa.

My father also remembered that Teresa was known for her herbal remedies and was always growing and preparing herbs. She would always quote from the Old Testament and loved to quote the verses about the revenge and punishment of God. "Hellfire and brimstone" verses he called them. He said he was none too pleased with this as a child as it frightened him a bit.

Find a Grave contributor "JTS" notes that while her death certificate gives a birthdate of 7 Aug 1850, census records consistently show her born between 1856 and 1860, making 1858 a more plausible guess at her birth year.

He was a miner. His death certificate describes him as divorced. The 1930 Federal census has him living with his parents, described as "married" but with no one listed in the family who could be his wife.

His middle name was indeed Harrison, not "Hack" as shown in some online trees. His middle name appears in full on his WWI draft card, his WWII draft card, and his death record. This, and the name of his brother Ed McKinley Freeman, does suggest that the Freeman family and possibly the Allen family were not fans of the Confederacy.

The death records referenced here for Sarah N. White (Ohio deaths index; Social Security deaths index) are for a "Sarah N. Miller". Did she marry a third time, to a Miller? (We have no death date for her second husband, a Ward whom we believe to have been William Harrison Ward.) The Ohio deaths index gives her birth date as "1900" and the place as "Tennessee", but the Social Security death record (which gives the same SSN as the Ohio record) gives a birth date of 8 Oct 1899, matching our other records. The Social Security death record also notes that her SSN was issued in "Minnesota (Before 1951)."

PNH's mother Jeannette (White) Hayden notes that she and her family visited Sarah N. White in 1945 "in an awful mining town," presumably Jackhorn, Letcher, Kentucky, where she is recorded as living at the time of her son Charles's death in 1946. "Bill Ward" is also recorded as alive and living with her at that time, so if she went to Minnesota "before 1951" it has to have been after 16 June 1946. If our Sarah N. White is the Sarah N. Miller recorded in the death records referenced here, perhaps this 1946-1951 period is when he died and she married her hypothesized third husband named Miller.

Jeannette Hayden's notes, written in the mid-1980s, report Sarah N. as "in a nursing home in Southern Ohio." This does correlate with the Ohio death report, which says that Sarah N. Miller died in a long-term care facility in Dayton.

The Ohio report also gives her as "widowed", which means that none of her two or three husbands can have lived past 8 July 1988.

The Kentucky death certificate for Gertie R. White, daughter of Curtis and Mary Elizabeth Ball, born 25 Sep 1907, died 15 May 1949 in McCreary County, calls her marital status at death "married", as opposed to "never married," "widowed," or "divorced", and it names the informant as "Jerome White."
