Possibly the Elizabeth Marshill recorded in volume 1 of the Encyclopedia of Quaker Genealogy (page 36) as born in Orange County, North Carolina, 3 9th month 1784, daughter of Jacob Marshill (born 9 2nd month 1745, Chester County, Pennsylvania) and Margaret Cypert (born 1744, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania). Cane Creek Monthly Meeting, meeting county Alamance.

She last appears in the 1850 census; in the 1860 census, Zachariah Britt and his children are living with a 40-year-old woman named Elizabeth. This is presumably the Elizabeth Freeman whom Zachariah Britt married in Moore County on 25 Jul 1857.

Proof that Nancy Freeman was a daughter of William Freeman and Elizabeth Marshall (who really existed, whether or not she was their daughter) is unknown to us, but given PNH's interest in discovering more Freeman family history, we're leaving them as her parents in the hope that this will attract more information.

Census records show that he and his family moved from Moore County, North Carolina to what would become Oklahoma sometime between 1880 and 1900. The same records present an entirely inconsistent record of whether he was literate.

In the 1850 census he is four years old, living with his mother Nancy, 42, father Zacheriah, 36, sister Elizabeth, 11, brother Enoch, 9, brother Henry, 6, brother William, 1, all in Moore County, North Carolina. His "cannot read and write" column is checked.

In the 1860 census he is 13, living with his father (the name as written looks like "Lachara"), age 40, a 40-year-old woman named Elizabeth (presumably his stepmother), brother Enoch, 18, brother Henry, 17, and brother William, 11, all in Moore County, North Carolina, post office Good Spring. His "cannot read" column is unchecked.

In the 1870 census he is 22, living in Bensalem, Moore County, North Carolina with wife Lydia, 21, son Henry, 3, daughter Margaret, 5 months, and Elizabeth Pool, age 70. His "cannot read" and "cannot write" columns are unchecked.

In the 1880 census he is 33, living in Shuffield, Moore County, North Carolina with wife Lydia M, 34, daughter Margret, 10, son Henry F., 9, daughter Nancy C., 7, son John C, 4, and daughter Mary A., 1. His "cannot read" and "cannot write" columns are checked.

In the 1900 census he is 53, living with wife Lydie M., 54, and son Ezkil R., 11, all in Township 4, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. The word "yes" appears in his "can read" and "can write" columns.

He last appears in census records in 1910, 63 years old (mistranscribed on ancestry.com as "69"), living with wife Lydia M., 64 and granddaughter Bonnie (born in Oklahoma), 12, in Burnett, Pottawatomie County, Oklahoma. The word "no" appears in his "can read" and "can write" columns.

Ezekiel married Lydia Martha Richardson in 1864. Lydia was born in Nov 1845 in Moore County, North Carolina; died on 6 Jan 1931 in Dougherty, Murray, Oklahoma; was buried in Dolberg Cemetery, Roff, Pontotoc, Oklahoma. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Margaret married Joseph Lee Morgan in 1885 in North Carolina. Joseph (son of Nathan Raleigh Morgan and Margaret Roseanne Richardson) was born on 25 Sep 1866 in Eagle Springs, Moore, North Carolina; died on 13 Dec 1929 in Texas; was buried in Willow Point Cemetery, Bridgeport, Wise, Texas.
