Notes - The family tradition that she was of "Indian blood" is more plausible than is usually the case. The earliest record of this belief that survives is an assertion to this effect by her grandson John Haines (1742-1832), son of Carlisle Haines. John would have been only two years old when she died, but he certainly would have had plenty of contact throughout his life with people who knew her, including his own brother Solomon Haines, 6xG-grandmother of ASF, who lived near John and to whom he was close. Richard Haines and His Descendants (citation details below), without taking a position on the question, reproduces correspondence from several generations of the Haines family that makes it clear that they believed it and accepted it.
While we are generally dismissive of white American claims to some homeopathic quantity of native ancestry, this one seems worth some respect, if not unquestioning acceptance. More detail can be read at the Wikitree page for Mary Carlyle.
