Notes - "Samuel served as a lieutenant colonel in Colonel William Henshaw's Regiment and appears on a list of staff officers who marched from Leicester on the alarm of 19 April 1775 with service of 10 1/2 days. He also served as a colonel in the 1s Worcester County Regiment and appears on a list of officers of Massachusetts militia; he was commissioned 2 February 1776. Colonel Samuel Denny signed a list of officers chosen by companies in his regiment dated at Lancaster, 28 March 1776. He served as a colonel in the First Worcester County regiment, Brig. Gen. Jonathan Warner's brigade, and appears on a general return of officers for equipments made by Adj. Gen. Peleg Wadsworth, dated 5 July 1779. He was also colonel in the 2d Regiment raised for three months and ordered to march to Claverack, New York, engaged 21 October 1779 and discharged 26 November 1779, with service of one month and fourteen days, travel included."
