  • Notes
    • She married, after the death of Jonathan Barney, Charles Whitfield. According to Genealogy of the Barney Family in America (citation details below), "On June 10, 1727 Charles Whitfield and wife Sarah, Mariner of Newport, gave power of attorney and quit-claim deed to their son Benjamin Barney of Nantucket, Tailor, for some 50 acres of land in Korth Kingstown, in "Jonses Purchase," laid out Jan. 1, 1671 to Thomas Waterman, grandfather of Sarah, and sold to her father, Benjamin Griffin in 1673. Benjamin Griffin was the son of Robert and Hannah (_) Griffin." This suggests that her grandmother Hannah may have been a Hannah Waterman, daughter of Thomas Waterman.
