  The Chetwynds of Ingestre asserts that this Elias was a descendant of an Elias de Oddeston who was a son of John de Verdun (1226-1274) by his first wife, Margaret daughter of Gilbert de Lacy. John, Margaret, and Gilbert certainly existed -- by his second wife, Eleanor de Bohun, John de Verdun is an ancestor of your genealogist's spouse -- but we find no trace of the existence of the alleged "Elias de Oddeston."
