  He fought in the Crimean War. He was awarded the Order of the Medjidie. He was made Captain in the 17th and 75th Regiment, and also achieved the rank of honorary Major. His second wife was his first cousin Francis Margaret Carr, a granddaughter of his grandfather John Albeck Clement.
