• Notes

  He was many times a deputy to the Connecticut assembly, and in 1662 was named as a patentee of the colony's royal charter. Genealogist Gary Boyd Roberts has shown him to be an ancestor of, among others, Cole Porter and Archibald MacLeish. His brief Wikipedia article lists several more notable descendants including Louisa May Alcott, Humphrey Bogart, Nancy Reagan, Tennessee Williams, and Harriet Beecher Stowe.
