• Notes

  He first came to New Netherland about 1657 and settled at Gravesend, Long Island, where his first wife's father already lived. He returned to the Netherlands some time after that and in 1662 came back to New Netherland with his brother, Harmen Janse van Barkelo. After the death of his first wife, he moved to Flatlands.
