  Civil War, 172nd Regiment, Ohio (National Guard). Private, Company C. Enlisted 1 May 1864 (or, according to Charles Gander, 27 Apr 1864), mustered out 3 Sep 1864 at Gallipolis, Ohio. He and his family moved to Kansas on 1 Nov 1885, but due to Rhoda's poor health, they returned to Guernsey County on 1 Sep 1886. He died of complications of epilepsy.
