- From John P. DuLong (citation details below):
He was an accomplished lawyer and magistrate. He held a law degree and appeared in the Parlement de Paris in 1395. When France was torn between opposing forces favoring the Duke of Orleans (the Armagnac faction) or the Duke of Burgundy (the Burgundian faction), Pierre sided with the latter. He entered the council of Philippe the Bold, Duke of Burgundy, and was his pensioned lawyer starting in 1403. He participated in the defense of John the Fearless, Duke of Burgundy, in the murder of the Duke of Orléans in 1407. He was also retained by Philippe the Good, Duke of Burgundy. Pierre de Marigny held several prestigious positions including lawyer in the Cour du Tre?sor (Treasury Court), 1402-1408; lawyer in the Parlement de Paris, 1403-1419; advocate general of the Parlement de Paris, 1410-1418; master of the requests of the Ho?tel du roi (the royal household) for Charles VI, the mad king of France, 1421-1433; and guard and provost of Paris, 1421.
When Burgundy became allied to England and Henry V, king of England, captured Paris in 1420, Pierre collaborated with the English. He disappeared from the records about 1436 when the English were expulsed from Paris. According to one account, "Marigny had a greedy and vengeful character." He could be harsh in the treatment of Armagnac sympathizers.
