    • Kokomo Daily Tribune, September 11, 1915:

      Henry R. Degler, age 75 years, 11 months, and 15 days, died at his late home on North Buckeye Street this morning at 8 o'clock following an illness of several months from disease incident to old age. the deceased had a large host of friends in this city and not many knew that he was in a precarious condition. To them the announcement of his death has come as a distinct shock.

      The deceased was born in Pennsylvania on September 26, 1839, and when the Civil War broke out, he was living in Ohio. He was one of the first to enlist and serve throughout the strife. He was a private first in Company F of the First O.V.I. and later was a private in Company B of the Eighth V.R.C. [...]

      The deceased was a good citizen and he leaves a host of friends to mourn his loss. He was a good father, a kind neighbor, and faithful and kind-hearted to all who knew him as a friend.
