• Notes

  Her parentage is controversial. She is called "daughter" in the 24 Apr 1654 will of William Cogan of Chard, but other evidence has been interpreted by reputable genealogists, including Mary Lovering Holman and Nora E. Snow, to demonstrate that she was in fact a posthumous daughter of John Strong (d. 1612) of Chard. We're going with the Cogan model but we note the other opinion.
