Notes - She was a First Nations woman, probably an Algonquin or a Huron, adopted by early French colonist Olivier Letardif. She was also called Marie Olivier; the record of her marriage to Martin Prevost calls her "Marie Olivier, Sauvagesse". Many genealogical sources call her Marie Sylvestre or Marie Olivier dit Sylvestre, but Denis Beauregard (citation details below) says there is no basis for this. And simply because it was her father's name, she is often called Marie Manitouabeouich, but there are no records of her using that name, whereas according to the PRDH (citation details below) a mention exists, from 1642, of her serving as a godmother under the name Marie Ouchistaouichkoue. It is possible that her mother was named Outchibaliabanoukoueau, who is cited by Father LeJeune as having children with Roch Manitouabeouich.
She was probably the first Native to marry a French colonist.
