He had livery of his father's lands 2 November 1274. He was in the Welsh wars 1282-93. On 28 June 1283, he was summoned to attend the King at Shrewsbury, and 8 June 1294, to attend the King wherever he might be, and consequently ordered to be omitted from the summonses for Gascony on the 14th. He was summoned to Parliament 24 June 1295 to 29 December 1299, by writs directed Petro Corbet, whereby he is held to have become Lord Corbet.

He married, 1stly, in or before 1252-3, Joan, daughter of Ralph De Mortimer, of Wigmore, co. Hereford, by Gwladus Du, daughter of Llewelyn ap Iorwerth, PRince of North Wales. He married, 2ndly, Alice de Orreby. He died 1300, before 10 August. His widow was living May 1315.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    Notes:

Sheriff of Shropshire and Staffordshire, 1248-50. "The appointment of Thomas Corbet (a Baron Marcher) to be Sheriff of Shropshire and Staffordshire in this same year (1248) is an extraordinary one, and has given rise to a discussion whether he, or his namesake of Hadley, was the person so distinguished. When we find that Thomas Corbet of Hadley was deceased in August 1247, we are satisfied that it was the Baron of Caus." [Eyton, Antiquities of Shropshire, citation details below. Marcher lords were rarely made sheriffs for the same reason that they rarely went on crusade: their presence at the border was constantly required.]

Thomas married Isabell de Valletort before 1 Jul 1235. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 33.  Isabell de Valletort (daughter of Roger de Valletort and Alesia).

  3. 34.  Fulk de Orreby was born in of Stapleford, Cheshire, England (son of Philip de Orreby and Alice de Baumville); died on 23 Aug 1261.

    Notes:

"Fulk de Orreby, son of Sir Philip the Justiciar by his 2nd wife, must have succeeded to his father's estates, because his widowed mother had dower by his assignment. [...] He was a knight by 1238. He held sundry offices in the Palatinate--e.g., in 1249 he was keeper of Chester Abbey during a vacancy, and in 1251 keeper of the Forest and escheator in Cheshire. At Michaelmas 1259 he was appointed Justiciar, and retained office until his death, 23 Aug. 1261. He is said to have married Philippe, 'daughter and heir of John Strange of Dalby,' and to have acquired with her Dalby and other lands in Lincolnshire. His widow was named Sibyl." [Complete Peerage X:170]

CP's footnote (h) on the same page, regarding the issue of whether he married a Philippe Strange:

"According to the old pedigrees. The tradition derives support from seals used by John Orreby [1st Lord Orreby] and his grandson. [...] Fulk was holding Dalby of the Earl of Chester in 1242-3; Gilbert de Langton appears to have held it in 1212."

    Children:
    1. 17. Alice Orreby died after Apr 1315.
