    Notes:

    Seneschal, governor, and receiver of the castle and honor of Halton in Cheshire.

    In about 1352 he was indicted, with others, for an invasion the manor of Geaumes near Reading, held by Edward III's son Lionel, in which incident Michael Poynings and Thomas le Clerke were killed, and Margary, wife of Nicolas de la Beche, was raped. For this involvement he was pardoned by the king.

    Sheriff of Cheshire 1356 and 1359. Knighted in 1361.

    Notes:

    This Hugh Dutton is widely recorded (by Ormerod and others) as the husband of Joan Holand, daughter of Robert de Holand and Elizabeth de Samlesbury. Hugh Dutton's heir Thomas Dutton was his son by Joan. But Joan was this Hugh Dutton's second wife. Proof of Hugh's prior marriage, to Isabel, a daughter of Hamon de Mascy and Mary de Beauchamp, is set forth in W. H. B. Bird's 1900 paper "The Representation of the Barons of Dunham," the pertinent pages of which can be downloaded here. Bird also establishes that Katherine, one of this Hugh's three daughters by his first marriage, married a Pulford, by whom she was the mother of Robert de Pulford whose daughter Joan married the Robert Grosvenor who died in 1396.

    (c) This Sir Robert was son of Thurston, son of Robert de Holand. He m. before 1276, when he and his wife were involved in a suit about Salmesbury. The date of his death is uncertain, probably about 1300. His widow was living 1311.
