He had previously lived "some twelve or fifteen years in Lancaster" (Israel Daniel Rupp, History of Lancaster County, 1844).

Jane Evans Best (citation details below) calls him a "Mennonite preacher".

Jane Evans Best (citation details below) does not list Barbara Weaver among the children of Jakob Weber and Anna Bowman. Sources that do include the genealogical records of the Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society and the Biographical Annals of Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

Jakob married Anna Bauman about 1723 in Weaverland, Earl Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Anna (daughter of Wendel Bauman and Anna) was born in 1703 in Netherlands; died on 11 Feb 1771 in Weaverland, Earl Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; was buried in Martin/Weaver Cemetery, Weaverland, Earl Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Generation: 4

  1. 12.  Hans Weber was born before 10 Jan 1658; was christened on 10 Jan 1658 in Bäretswil, Switzerland (son of Heinrich Weber and Elsbeth Rüggin); died on 17 Dec 1724 in Lampeter, West Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania.

    Notes:

The Weaver/Weber memorial stone at Weaverland cemetery calls him "Johann Anton Weber" and gives him a birth year of 1640. Jane Evans Best (citation details below) says "The name Anton has been associated by family tradition with Hans Weber, but does not appear in any of his European records."

West Lampeter Township was in Chester County at the time of Hans Weber's death in 1724; that portion of Chester County became part of the new county of Lancaster in 1729.

Hans married Mary Margarethe in 1680 in Bäretswil, Switzerland. Mary died after Nov 1725. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 13.  Mary Margarethe died after Nov 1725.

    Notes:

Said by some, without proof, to have been a daughter of the Rev. Hans Herr, a leader of the first Mennonites in Lancaster County. Her surname is given as "Herr" on a modern memorial stone in the Martin/Weaver (Weaverland, also Weberthal) Cemetery in Earl Township, Lancaster County. Others have said that she may have been a member of the Guth family, other daughters of which are known to have married relatives of Hans Weber.

    Children:
    1. 6. Jakob Weber was born in 1688 in Switzerland; died in Jan 1747 in Blue Ball, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; was buried in Martin/Weaver Cemetery, Weaverland, Earl Township, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Alternate birth: Abt 1680
    • Alternate birth: Abt 1681, Switzerland

    Notes:

Also called Wynant Bauman, Bowman. Some accounts treat Wendel and Wynant as separate individuals, but there is evidence to suggest that they were the same person. If they were not, they were probably brothers, and the Anna who married Jacob Weber/Weaver was likely a daughter of one or the other of them.

A thorough overview of what is known about Wendel/Wynant/Wynand Bauman, with extensive references, can be found here at Janet and Robert Wolfe Genealogy.

"Wendel Baumann, the original settler of this family, came to Pennsylvania at a very early date. He was born in Switzerland about the year 1681. When about seventeen years of age, he in company with his parents, moved to Holland where they had the promise of protection from the persecuting parties of southern and central Europe, by William, Prince of Orange, afterwards William III of England. Here the old progenitor lived until the beginning of the seventeenth [sic] century, when he set his face for America. He landed safely at Philadelphia, but date of landing is not known. We find that in 1709 a number of families moved westward from Philadelphia, seeking a tract of land where they might settle in one vicinity. The choice of their location was on a tract situated north of Pequea Creek, extending to the Conestogo (Their settlement was Strasburg Tp., Chester Co., now West Lampeter Tp., Lancaster Co.), containing ten thousand acres of land. The warrant for this was recorded and the land surveyed to them on October 23rd, 1710. Among these settlers we find the name of Wendel Baumann." [Ezra E. Eby, citation details below]

Said to have come to America under the leadership of Rev. Hans Herr, a Swiss Mennonite minister.
