    Notes:

"The marriage of Thomas Jocelyn with Maud Hide brought into his possession the manor of the Hide, or 'Hide Hall,' which descended to his heirs, the Josselyn family owning it for almost six hundred and fifty years, when in 1897, itv was willed to Sophia, widow of the fifth Earl of Roden, who had died without issue. A charter of 'Thomas son of John' is still preserved by the family." [Stevens-Miller Ancestry, citation details below.]

  2. 3.  Katherine

    Notes:

Given by French, and by the 1612 Visitation of Essex (citation details below), as a daughter of Thomas Battell and Elizabeth Enfield. However, Tim Powys-Lybbe made this point in a 2004 post to soc.genealogy.medieval:

"[T]here is a document that has (or _had_ in about 1870) survived, the will of John Battell, the son of Thomas Battell and Elizabeth Enfield, which this John made before he went off on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem. Nothing more is known of this John so it is presumed he died there.

"You can read the verbatim account of this will by downloading:

    http://www.south-frm.demon.co.uk/barringtons/Barr.pdf

and then go to pages 12 and 13. You will find that there were only two sisters, and heirs, of John: Alice and Margaret. There is no mention of Katherine and Alice and Margaret were not then married, so my suspicion is that this Katherine Battell either never existed or has been allocated to the wrong parents."

[Unfortunately, as of 28 Aug 2016 the URL given by Powys-Lybbe is dead, but given his record we see no reason to doubt his account of the will's contents.]
