  2. 3.  Hope

    Notes:

Said on Wikitree to have been Hope Borden (1685-1717) of Rhode Island, daughter of John Borden or Bordon and Mary Earle. Said on familysearch.org to have been Hope Fish, born 5 Mar 1675 in Portsmouth, Rhode Island to Thomas Fish and Grizzel Strange. There do appear to have been connections (farmland abutting one another's, etc) between the Merrihew and Fish families, but the evidence we've seen thus far is hazy.

The father of the Thomas Fish who married Grizzel Strange was another Thomas Fish, whose wife Mary was widely asserted to have been Mary Soule, suggesting a connection to Mayflower passenger George Soule. This makes us a little suspicious of strenuous attempts to connect Josiah Merrihew's wife Hope to the Hope Fish who was Thomas and Grizzel's daughter. At any rate, there seems to us no evidence that the older Thomas's wife Mary was a Soule.

    Children:
    1. 1. Preserved Merrihew was born on 30 Mar 1704 in Dartmouth, Bristol, Massachusetts; died before 1 Mar 1792.

Generation: 3

  1. 4.  Teage Amarahow

    Notes:

As far as we can tell, the evidence for his existence mostly consists of his name's appearance, variously spelled, on the Yarmouth birth records of his several children. According to several online sources, most of his descendants were through his sons Jonathan and Josiah, the latter an ancestor of DGH. Jonathan's descendants mostly spelled their surname Merithew or Merrithew; Josiah's, Merihoo or Merrihew.

    Children:
    1. 2. Josiah Merrihew was born on 1 Apr 1673 in Yarmouth, Barnstable, Massachusetts.
