    Notes:

    He was summoned to serve against the Scots in 1300 and 1301. Richardson (citation details below) calls him a "probable" son of William de Huntingfield and Emma de Grey. Although he was granted the marriage of Christine, widow of Nicholas de Meinell, Lord Meinell, in 1299, it is unknown whether this marriage took place, and the name of the mother of his daughter Joan is also unknown.

  1. 16.  William de Huntingfield was born about 1160 in of Huntingfield, Suffolk, England (son of Roger de Huntingfield and Alice de Senlis); died before 25 Jan 1221.

    Notes:

    Magna Carta surety. He was among the barons excommunicated by Pope Innocent in late 1215, and his lands were taken by the king. He reduced Essex and Sussex for Prince Louis of France, and in consequence his lands in Norfolk and Suffolk were plundered by John. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Lincoln, 20 May 1217, and his Lincolnshire lands were given to John Marshal. At the war's end, he made peace with Henry III and was restored to his estates.

    Warden of the Cinque Ports. Constable of Dover Castle, 1203-04. Sheriff of Norfolk and Suffolk, 1209-11. Justice itinerant in Lincolnshire.

    He died on crusade, possibly in the Near East. 25 Jan 1221 is that date on which his son Roger gave 100 marks for the livery of his inheritance.

    Also called Isabel fitz William; Isabel de Fréville. She was clearly a descendant of the line begun by Wimar (Guihomar, Wihomarc), 11th/12th-century steward of the earl of Warenne, but as Farrer (citation details below; volume 3, p. 396) points out, her exact parentage is unclear.

Crabbe (citation details below) has this Sir Henry de Grey as a son of the Anschitel de Grey who married a daughter of Baldwin de Revières, but the Reverend Crabbe's own editor disagrees, inserting an interruption in which he calls this claim "all assertion, and what is worse, assertion of that arch scoundrel and pedigree concocter, Glover, once Somerset Herald."
