  1. 2.  Alduin I of Angoulême was born about 860 (son of Wulgrin I of Angoulême); died on 27 Mar 917; was buried in Abbey of Saint-Cybard, Angoulême, Charente, France.

    Notes:

Count of Angoulême. From Leo van de Pas' site (citation details below): "Alduin fought the Vikings invading Aquitaine, and to that end in 886 he extended the city ramparts of Angoulême. He was said to be in possession of a splinter of wood from the True Cross which his father had received from the abbey of Charroux as a Christian symbol inspiring victory in the struggle against the Vikings. The monks demanded the return of this relic from Alduin, who refused. He suffered a serious illness and his followers began to roam like wolves through the land on the hunt for human flesh. He had a golden reliquary shrine built by his son Guillaume who brought it to Charroux, whereupon the curse came to an end."

    Notes:

Or Vulgrin, Woulgrin. Count of Angoulême, Périgueux, and possible Saintonge from 866 to his death.

Listed (with no dates or commentary) by The Henry Project as a child of Wulfhard, under the name "Vulgrin." (Presuming this is the same individual.)

In a 2021 thread on SGM beginning here, Peter Stewart argued persuasively that whoever his wife was, it was probably not a "Regelindis" who was a daughter of Bernard of Toulouse and his wife Dhuoda.
