    Also known as Ralph Basset. Sheriff of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, 1420-22. Knight of the shire for Leicestershire. He served as a young man in the French campaigns of Henry V. He was present at the siege of Harfleur, but was prevented by illness from taking command of his retinue at Agincourt.

    She and her brother John de Brewes were long held to be offspring of Peter de Brewes by his wife Joan de Percy, but a growing consensus appears to be that Peter de Brewes and Joan de Percy were divorced in 1352 (after which she married Alan Cheney), that Peter de Brewes then married as his second wife Joan Howard daughter of John Howard and Alice de Bois, and that John and Beatrice were children of Peter de Brewes's second marriage.
