    Other Events and Attributes:

    • Alternate death: Aft 1691

    Notes:

Carl Boyer's Ancestral Lines (citation details below) gives Richard Borden and Joan Fowle a second-of-her-name daughter Mary, born April 1656, and assigns her, instead of the daughter Mary baptized in 1633, as the wife of "John Cook of Portsmouth", saying she "d. before 1691." But whether this second Mary existed or not, she cannot have been John Cooke's wife and the mother of children born in the 1650s.

    Notes:

Claimed as a son of John Shaw (1597-1664) and also of a different early-New-England John Shaw (d. 1704), but there seems to be no proof for either.

Anthony married Alice Stonard on 8 Apr 1653 in Boston, Suffolk, Massachusetts. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

    Notes:

"Thomas Cooke alias Butcher was probably the child baptized 13 April 1600 in the parish church of St. Mary, Netherbury, Dorsetshire, England, as Thomas Bowcher. He died at Portsmouth, Rhode Island in the spring of 1677, probably just before 21 May, when his inventory was taken, as Thomas Cooke." [Thomas Cooke of Rhode Island, citation details below.]

Thomas married Mary. Mary died about 1670. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

  2. 9.  Mary died about 1670.

    Notes:

"[Thomas Cooke] is known to have had two wives named Mary, but it is not known whether the first Mary was his first wife, married in England and thus the mother of his first three children. She was his wife in May 1660, when she signed her mark to a deed, but she had died by March 1672/3, when the second Mary wrote a good signature on another deed. It is likely that the first Mary died about 1670, when several members of the family of Thomas(2) Cook died within a few months time." [Thomas Cooke of Rhode Island, citation details below.]

    Notes:

He inherited from his father land in Headcorn, but in 1628 he moved to Cranbrook, where his wife had relatives. He emigrated from Cranbrook to New England in 1627/28, settling at Portsmouth, where he was a surveyor and held a variety of public offices.
