    Notes:

    He may have been, as claimed by nineteenth-century genealogists and local historians, the William Ames who was baptized at Bruton, Somersetshire on 6 Oct 1605, son of John Ames and Christian Browne. Unfortunately, the records that would prove that were destroyed by the Luftwaffe in 1942.
