(Their son John Combe3 died in 1614, leaving William Shakespeare £5 in his will.) John Combe2 was the son of John Combe1 (d. 1550) and his wife Katherine. Katherine married, secondly, Adrian Quiney (d. 1553). Their great-grandson Thomas Quiney (1589-1655) married Judith Shakespeare (1585-1662), daughter of William Shakespeare and Anne Hathaway.

    He is referred to by Ancestral Roots (43:34) (and several other sources) as "Sir Guy Spinney," referencing the Throckmorton chart in NEHGR 98 between pages 114 and 115 where he is "Sir Guy Spiney of Coughton, co. Warw". But his History of Parliament entry gives no evidence that he was ever knighted, or likely to be.

    Both The Blackmans of Knight's Creek and Gary Boyd Roberts's The Royal Descent of 600 Immigrants (citation details below) show her as Alice de Bruley, daughter of William Bruley and granddaughter of Henry Bruley and Katherine Foliot. But as far as we can tell, both works' primary source for this is Charles Wickliffe Throckmorton's problematic Genealogical and Historical Account of the Throckmorton Family in England and the United States, which, on examination, does not seem to us to make a convincing case that she was a Bruley. The second edition of Dugdale's Antiquities of Warwickshire (citation details below) gives her only as "Alicia."
