  1. 1.  Jacob Overman died after 12 Sep 1715 in Pasquotank County, North Carolina.

    Notes:

He first arrived in North America in Maryland in 1667, aboard the Thomas and Mary, Thomas Harwood, captain (The Early Settlers of Maryland ed. Gust Skordas, Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Company, 1979). He was indentured to Richard Gorsuch for six years. By 1677 he is found in Wethersfield, Connecticut, where he married his first wife, Hannah, by whom he had nine children. Sometime after Hannah's death in 1692, he moved to North Carolina, where he acquired four hundred acres of land. His death is recorded as 8 Sep 1715 in the Symons Creek Monthly Meeting minutes, which is probably a clerical error since his will is clearly dated 12 Sep 1715.

After the death of his first wife Hannah, he married Dorothea Porter. His will gives "unto my Loveing Son Ephraim Overman one halfe of my Nigro man named Peter & the other halfe of the Sd Nigro to my Loveing Daughter Margary Macky & their heirs & assigns for Ever after the departure or decease of my Loveing Wife Dorothy Overman out of the aforsd Collony of North Carolina".

He is often said to have originated in Germany, but we know of no evidence for this.

Jacob married Hannah on 25 Oct 1677 in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut. Hannah was born about 1654; died on 22 Feb 1692 in Wethersfield, Hartford, Connecticut. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
