Generation: 1

  1. 1.  Frances "Fanny" Collins was born on 22 Oct 1758 in New Kent County, Virginia (daughter of William Collins and Mary); died on 1 Aug 1821 in Wilson County, Tennessee.

    Notes:

We know from the record of her marriage that her father and mother were named William and Mary Collins. Possibly this was the William Collins who died in 1778 on his plantation in Pittsylvania, Virginia and whose will is said to mention "Dau: Faney Collins." William's wife Mary is said by some to have been Mary Cason, recorded as having provided "material aid" to the Revolutionary cause. However, New Kent, where Frances "Fanny" Collins is said to have been born, is a long way from Pittsylvania where this particular William Collins died, leading us to suspect that our Frances "Fanny" Collins' parents were a different William and Mary.

Frances married John Word on 9 Nov 1799 in Pittsylvania, Virginia. John (son of Charles Word and Sarah) was born on 22 Sep 1738 in New Kent County, Virginia; died on 1 Aug 1821 in Lebanon, Wilson, Tennessee; was buried in New Bethel Cemetery, Bedford, Bedford, Tennessee.
