  • Notes
    • Or Esther.

The record of her marriage intention in Leiden describes her as an unmarried young woman from Canterbury in England, but while that may have been her most recent residence, all other evidence points to her having been part of a largely French family.

"In his attempt to justify the structure and practice of the Plymouth church to an English audience, Edward Winslow included among his examples 'the wife of Francis Cooke being a Walloon, [who] holds communion with the Church at Plymiuth, as she came from the French, to this day, by virtue of communion of churches'."
